George Ty the founder of GT Capital Holdings, a diversified conglomerate with interests in banking, real estate, and automotive

George Ty was a Chinese-Filipino businessman and philanthropist who was born on October 25, 1932, in Amoy, China (now Xiamen). He migrated to the Philippines with his family in 1949, and eventually became one of the country's most successful businessmen.

Ty was the founder of GT Capital Holdings, a publicly traded holding company that controls several businesses in the Philippines, including Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank), one of the largest banks in the country, and Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation, a major player in the automotive industry.

In addition to his interests in banking and automotive, Ty's conglomerate also has holdings in real estate, power generation, insurance, and education. Some of the notable companies under the GT Capital Holdings umbrella include Federal Land Inc., Global Business Power Corporation, and AXA Philippines.

Throughout his career, Ty received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to the business and financial sectors in the Philippines. He was awarded the Philippine Legion of Honor, the country's highest honor for civilians, and was inducted into the Philippine Business Hall of Fame.

Aside from his business ventures, Ty was also known for his philanthropic work. He established the Metrobank Foundation, which supports various programs in education, arts and culture, and health and medical research. He also founded the GT Foundation, which provides scholarships and grants to underprivileged students in the Philippines.

George Ty passed away on November 23, 2018, at the age of 86, but his legacy continues through the businesses he established and the philanthropic organizations he founded.
