President Rodrigo Duterte appeared impressed with the interiors of Chinese warships docked in his hometown, Davao City.
Duterte who was already wearing a cap given to him by the Chinese Navy officials, described the interiors of the ships "like a hotel."
"It’s all carpeted inside like a hotel actually,"
He added that he even asked the Chinese Navy if they could accommodate guests in the ships.
"Is there any room here for guests? Can I use it?" he told reporters.
Duterte said the visit was part of confidence building between Manila and Beijing.
"Part of really the confidence building and goodwill...To show that we’re friends,"
He also downplayed tensions between the Philippines and China over the South China Sea, saying entering into war would do no good for both countries.
"Well in the sense, it would not be good because any violence now would result only in both sides losing there is no winner actually,"
